The Level of Artificial Intelligence Technology in North Korea

The products presented by companies and university research institutes at the “National Informationization Achievements Exhibition–2025,” held in October this year, demonstrated a considerable level of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Regarding this year’s exhibition, North Korea evaluated it by stating that “over the past several years, the rapid development of information and communications technology, ‘digital technology’ (literally ‘numerical technology’), and artificial intelligence technology has shown that informationization and digitization in all fields of state management and social life have risen to a new and higher stage.”

In particular, during the exhibition period, competitions were held among units producing information technology products, including artificial intelligence (AI) program contests, software programming contests, digital television sets, and intelligent mobile phones (smartphones). Intelligent guide robots and educational robots equipped with voice recognition and facial recognition technologies also appeared as distinctive attractions for visitors.
